Chief Operating Officer, Supervising Instructor
Company: Pilates in GermantownLocation: Philadelphia, PA
Date Posted: 6/5/2008
Description:
Are you ready to be a leader…not simply an instructor? I need a certified Pilates instructor to assist me in opening a new Pilates studio in West Central Germantown, Philadelphia.
You should have full certification (Stott, Balanced Body, Polestar, Power Pilates, and similarly inspired programs). The studio will not emphasize classic Pilates. Additional certifications (ACE, special populations, etc.) are desirable.
The studio is located next to Philadelphia School of Circus Arts, an unusual training program on Greene St. off of Lincoln Drive in historic West Central Germantown. There is no large studio within 5 miles of this location.
The studio replaces one that closed recently and has an established client base. The circus arts program will also be a source of clients. While I will be handling day to day operations and business matters, you will be in charge of planning instruction choreography and maintaining a schedule of morning and early evening small group classes (no more than 5 students/class), and private lessons by appointment. We will make important business and instructional planning decisions together.
The initial business plan calls for 2 group class in the early morning, and 2 in the early evening, weekdays (except Friday night) and two classes Saturday morning. I expect to hire one or two part-time instructors with your recommendation to assist in the teaching schedule.
I will be buying 5 Balanced Body reformer/tower combinations and a 1 Cadillac/Reformer combination as well as a couple other pieces. You should have several years of teaching experience and be ready to be a leader.
As a certified teacher, I assume that you are already good at working with people. If you happen to be looking for a place to live, this is a nice area, convenient to public transportation.
Compensation will include a salary to be negotiated, whi ch will increase as the studio succeeds. I will pay normal social security, unemployment and worker compensation benefits in addition to salary. I will pay for on-going professional development and vacation time.
I plan a soft opening in August when I will begin salary compensation, but I will pay for organizational meetings from the day we agree to work together. The formal opening is planned for September. Please be prepared to provide a resume. You may call 215-848-1375 to discuss the position further.
Requirements:
Certification on all Pilates equipment from a recognized organization (Polestar, Stott, Balanced Body, or a training studio which emphasizes the contemporary approach), ACE, continuing ed. including special populations or anatomy, etc.
Demonstrable teaching experience, a couple of years preferred.
Leadership ability and willingness to work closely with the owner who is not a certified instructor.
Read the job description carefully. This is regarded as a full time position. You should not expect to have much outside employment. You income will grow, as will the owner’s, as the business succeeds.
