Pilates Community Forum > I have been looking to purchase a wall unit for my studio.
Sue, you can actually build your own wall units out of plumbing pipes for a fraction of the cost. I made the mistake of purchasing wall units from BB and have had eye bolts snap off at the threads and clips release from the springs. I am in the process of replacing eye bolts, springs and push through bars at a substantial expense to make the equipment safer for my clients.
I did hire a carpenter to build platforms to hold mats that I use with my wall units. It was way cheaper than buying the whole package.
To be honest, you really don't need all of the holes that they drill on those poles. If you have a Cadillac, use that as a guide as to where you will need holes and may I suggest buying your springs from Gratz. They are consistent on their resistance and make a more reliable spring.
Good Luck.

I have been looking at the different models of wall units. I like the model that has the eyebolts
spaced all the way down the chrome poles because you can use not only the built up mat (which goes along with the unit) but also your reformer, a pilates mat or a yoga mat up to the unit. Some companies have indicated that they could build a custom unit for me-adding some eyebolts at a much cheaper cost. This might allow me to purchase two. I just don't want to purchase something for the studio that won't be continually used or that is not sturdy. Got any ideas about the traditional wall units vs. the newer models with more eyebolts. Thanks, Sue
