Pilates Community Forum > Adding the chair

Hi,

I am considering adding the chair to my studio.
I find the Tower Reformer to be exceptional and I know the Chair has it's benefits...but how necessary is it?

Can't affor everything!!!! Any suggestions?

Is there another piece of equipment you would recommend over the chair?

Thanks!

The chair is the best piece of equipment to strengthen the functions of sitting, standing and walking. It is the most versatile and most economical piece of equipment invented by Joe.

Based on how you choose to use the Pilates method in your practice should determine whether this is worth the investment.

Good Luck.

Love, love, love my classic wunda chair, which I've owned for 10 years. It has followed me thru 7 moves around the US, and I don't see me ever selling it off.

Pros: *small footprint, so you don't need a lot of extra room; *it allows for different body positions than your reformer, so you can challenge muscles from different angles; *sometimes, the body needs to feel things in a different position for the light bulb to go off -- you may find yourself busting thru plateaus.

Tips: *consider a 'combo chair' so that you have the optional handles on the side, and a split pedal chair. This'll give you maximum # of exercises for 1 piece of equipment. *keep an eye out for the occasional free shipping deals from the higher-end manufacturers; *haunt craigslist -- I quite often see local pros changing out equipment and reselling on this site.

The chair is my favorite piece of equipment! It puts you in more functional positions like sitting and standing and the exercises incorporate a lot more daily moves (like climbing stairs, etc.), so clients can start to see how Pilates can be applied outside the studio as well as in. It's also great for older clients who may have trouble lying down on a mat or a low reformer bed.
