Pilates Stays Strong

You likely could have predicted the latest results from large-scale sporting goods and athletic surveys: Pilates is holding strong as a top fitness choice for millions of devotees. While the number of participants dropped slightly between 2004 and 2005, the Sporting Goods Manufacturers of America reported that Pilates still attracted 10,355,000 participants in 2005, and 1,600,000 of those came to more than 100 Pilates sessions or classes.

This year’s IDEA Fitness Program and Equipment Survey mentioned Pilates three times in a list of the top 10 areas health clubs expect to see growth in the coming year. The complete roundup also includes child and senior fitness, both areas that Pilates is gaining popularity in, as well as Gyrokinesis.

Do these reports reflect what is happening at your studio? Let us know how Pilates is received in your area. Click below to share whether you are seeing more or fewer participants than in past years, and what types of services clients are asking for.
