Minnesota Pays for Pilates Job Retraining
A recent Star Tribune article—Will Pilates Pull Us Through the Recession?—declared Pilates “recession proof,” highlighting the shortage of trained Pilates teachers and continued demand for the method. What’s most interesting is that the state of Minnesota is paying for laid-off workers to get retrained as Pilates teachers. One instructor, who was already trained under a different method, was reimbursed for the cost of taking a STOTT Pilates training course because the studio that was hiring required it. Pilates Job Outlook Looks Strong Despite Economy
With U.S. unemployment numbers worsening by the week, there are positive signs that say Pilates jobs may be more secure than average occupations. According to the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), the fitness industry is expected to grow 27 percent by 2016, which is much faster than the average for all occupations. And a recent fitness industry compensation survey by the IDEA Health & Fitness Association reinforced that finding.
